Refurbishment / Demolition Surveys

The Refurbishment/Demolition Survey is required where premises, or part of them, need upgrading, refurbishment or demolition.

This type of survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all asbestos containing materials in all areas of the survey remit and involves destructive inspection to gain access to all areas. The purpose of this survey is to locate asbestos in areas that may be uncovered or disturbed during forthcoming works. The type of intrusive action that could be necessary is the removing of wall panels, taking up floorboards, etc.

A Refurbishment / Demolition survey is designed to be used as a basis for tendering for the removal of asbestos from the building prior to demolition or major refurbishment. The survey does not assess the condition of the asbestos other than note areas of damage or where additional asbestos debris may be present.  The survey must locate and identify all asbestos containing materials before any refurbishment work begins. It involves an intrusive and destructive inspection with the potential of asbestos disturbance.  All areas to be surveyed must be vacated during the survey and certified ‘safe for reoccupation’ once the survey is completed
